Details on Yosemite's winter activities

Winter activities at a glance:

Ice skating:

Daily skating sessions at the Curry Village Ice Rink are from 3:30 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 9:30 p.m. On weekends and holidays, the rink is open for four 2 1/2 -hour sessions, beginning at 8:30 a.m., noon, 3:30 and 7 p.m., weather permitting. Cost per session is $8 for adults, $6 for children and $3 for skate rentals. Info: (209) 372-8341, www.yosemitepark.com.

Snowshoeing:

Park rangers lead free snowshoe hikes from the Badger Pass A-frame starting at 10:30 a.m. daily. A $5 donation is requested for snowshoe use. Info: (209) 372-0200 (this is also the number for snow updates and chain control information).

DNC Parks and Resorts at Yosemite, the park's concessionaire, offers a variety of guided snowshoe treks to places such as Dewey Point and Crane Flat. The next dates scheduled for full-moon snowshoe walks at Badger Pass are March 7-11. Reservations are required. Info: (209) 372-1240, www.yosemitepark.com.

Snowshoes can be rented from the Badger Pass Nordic Ski Center and Crane Flat Gas Station. Costs are $19.50 for a full day and $16.50 for a half day; (209) 372-8444

Skiing:

Badger Pass Ski Area is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily until March 29, weather permitting. A full-day adult lift ticket costs $42 on weekends and holidays, otherwise it's $35. Rentals and lessons are available. Info: (209) 372-8430.

Cross-country ski lessons and rentals are available from the Badger Pass Nordic Ski Center. Backcountry ski trips, both guided and self-guided, are also available to popular Glacier Point Ski Hut. Reservations are required. Info: (209) 372-8444, www.yosemitepark.com.
