United Airlines will start flying nonstop between LAX and Hong Kong in October 2007, the company announced today. It will also add seasonal service between Washington, D.C., and Rio de Janeiro.

Both routes are now open for booking.

The daily Los Angeles-Hong Kong route offers a U.S. new gateway to Hong Kong for United and also provides one-stop service to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and another connection to Singapore. Hong Kong becomes United's ninth nonstop international destination from LAX.

The service will use B747 aircraft with 14 first-class, 73 business and 260 economy seats. United listed a "sample fare" between Los Angeles and Hong Kong of $569 each way, based on required round-trip purchase

The flight will leave LAX at noon and Hong Kong at 12:20 p.m. daily.

Where am I?

Should we take offense, order a drink, or what? That depends, of course, on where you think these words turned up.
