More than 4,000 pumpkins are intricately carved and composed into elaborate scenes, such as a "Dead Sea," featuring skeletal fish and a full-size dinosaur skeleton, during the monthlong event at New York's Van Cortlandt Manor. The former home of a prominent New York family is a historic site open for tours with costumed guides.

Cost: Tickets vary depending on night: $14 or $15 for adults; kids 5 to 17, $10 or $12; kids 4 and younger free.

Info: (914) 631-8200, www.hudsonvalley.org.
