Pigeon Point Light Station, said to be the tallest lighthouse tower on the West Coast at 115 feet tall, is marking its 135th year. The 1872 tower is closed for restoration, but docents will present talks and give tours of the grounds. Also, at the Fog Signal Building, there will be lighthouse history videos, marine mammal exhibits and light refreshments for sale. The main event is the relighting of the original 8,000-pound lens, which is set to shine from 6 to 8 p.m. Docents recommend that visitors bring a flashlight (there are no streetlights), a picnic lunch and warm clothes.

When, where: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 17 at Pigeon Point Light Station State Historic Park, off Highway 1 south of Pescadero, Calif., about 50 miles south of San Francisco.
