ExpressJet airlines taking off in California

Six-month-old ExpressJet is spreading its wings in California, where it already serves six cities. Starting Nov. 11, 2007, it will begin flying nonstop out of Long Beach to Reno, plus Fresno and Monterey; and out of Santa Barbara to Sacramento and San Diego.

Although new as a branded carrier, ExpressJet has long operated regional service for Continental and, more recently, Delta; it serves the latter out of LAX. But LAX may not be in its future as a branded carrier, said Kristy Nicholas, spokeswoman for the Houston-based airline. "We try to avoid the congested hubs," she said.
