Gaia Napa Valley Hotel & Spa: This eco-conscious, 133-room lodging at Napa Valley's south end was built using wood from sustainable forests; recycled materials for carpets and bath tiles; and solar panels, which provide 12% of the electricity. It also has a spa and an outdoor pool and, by fall, plans to open a restaurant.

Info: 3600 Broadway St., American Canyon, Calif.; (888) 798-3777, www.gaianapavalleyhotel.com. Rates from $129 per night, including continental breakfast.

Where am I?

The French built this place before the Americans took it over. There are a couple of big lakes next door.
