NEED TO KNOW
The Hawaii Superferry service is accepting reservations for daily inter-island departures, scheduled to begin Aug. 28 26, 2007, from Oahu to Maui and Kauai.
Hot Topic | Editor's note: The inagural Superferry public sailing date has been pushed up by a few days, and $5 promotional fares are being offered for travel through September 5, 2007. Weigh in with your take on the Superferry -- good, bad or indifferent? -- on our Travel Message Boards.
The base fares for one-way trips are $42 to $62 per adult; $41 to $51 for seniors, retired military, and children ages 2 to 12; and $17 for infants. A lounge upgrade costs $20 per passenger. Vehicles will cost $34 to $104.
But the big catch is a fuel surcharge, which varies monthly (for tickets purchased this August 2007, it's 30.8%), on each passenger and vehicle fare. There are discounts for buying tickets in advance and on the website.
