Fall events keep Providence, Rhode Island colorful

Fruit labels, festivals and fire on the rivers -- all set amid the colors of New England in the fall -- are a few of attractions in Providence and the surrounding area this season.

The FirstWorksProv Festival, Sept. 29-Nov. 3, 2007, offers an eclectic mix of dance, digital art, rock opera and more; www.firstworksprov.org.

The Rhode Island School of Design Museum of Art presents a festival Sept. 15-Jan. 15, 2008 showcasing silent films and recent music videos with a focus on the "musicality of the moving image and narrative innovation."

WaterFire Providence, in which more than 100 bonfires are set above the three rivers of downtown Providence, continues into the fall with displays Sept. 15, 29, and Oct. 6 and 27, 2007.

The Johnson & Wales Culinary Arts Museum offers exhibits of more than a half-million culinary artifacts, including "Dripping with Color: The Art of the Fruit Crate Label" and "Country Fair to Culinary Olympics," a look at cooking competitions; www.culinary.org.
