Check out the view at one of the West's most scenic locales using a family-friendly summer package that includes lodging, a meal and a journey by train into Grand Canyon National Park.

The deal: Spend $389 for a family of four and receive an overnight stay at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel in Williams, Ariz.; dinner in Williams; a 65-mile ride aboard the Grand Canyon Railway to the South Rim of the canyon; a three-hour stop at the canyon and return trip aboard the train to Williams. Transportation from Los Angeles to Williams (about 440 miles) is not included.

The train: Historic steam-powered locomotives with restored passenger cars make the 130-mile round trip from Williams into the national park along a line that dates to 1901. Passenger cars have been authentically restored.

The park: The train depot is adjacent to the South Rim. Visitors can hike along the rim, eat at nearby hotels or add a bus tour (1 1/2 hours; $28 for adults, $17 for kids) that visits popular viewpoints along the rim.

Reservations: Call (800) 843-8724 or see www.thetrain.com
