Check gas prices online before hitting the road

Feeling homebound because gas prices are higher than Mt. Whitney? Wherever you roam you can score low prices through Gasbuddy.com and FreeMobileFuelFinder.com.

What's hot: Type in a ZIP Code or town and state at Gasbuddy and you'll get a roster of places to fuel up at, with prices listed from low to high. FreeMobileFuelFinder.com will send text messages to you if you register your e-mail and your cell number. To use it, call a toll-free phone number and type in a ZIP Code. Within a minute, you'll get a text message listing stations.

What's not: At Gasbuddy, the info and locations are only as accurate and current as the members who post them. I tried a La Cañada Flintridge ZIP Code and got no hits. But I did find some stations there through FreeMobileFuelFinder.com.

Where am I?

The French built this place before the Americans took it over. There are a couple of big lakes next door.
