WHERE TO EAT
In winter, make sure your accommodation has on-site meals prepared on-site, because many restaurants are closed. If you're traveling during the summer (December through February), there are some great options.
Wine & Truffle Co., 7 Day Road, Manjimup; 9777-2474, www.wineandtruffle.com.au/. Besides hosting truffle hunts, the Wine & Truffle Co. also has a gourmet café (meals from about $20) and wine tastings. The hunts will begin again in December, which is Australian summertime. Cost: about $80 per person. For $40 more, you can have a three-course lunch.
King Trout Restaurant & Marron Farm, Northcliffe Road, Pemberton; 9776-1352. Freshly caught rainbow trout and marron are available here year-round. You can also do your own marron fishing at the lake. Entrees $8 to $31.
