Country living

Cliveden is a beautiful estate on the Thames and has wonderful gardens and walking paths. Its most famous former occupant is Nancy Astor, the first woman seated in the British House of Commons. If you want a true sense of the luxurious and relaxed country life enjoyed by the British moneyed set, shown in such films as "Brideshead Revisited" and "Atonement," you will enjoy Cliveden.

Cliveden House, Taplow, Berkshire; 011-44-1628-668-561, www.clivedenhouse.co.uk.

Rooms from about $420.
