SKI & WINTER | CALIFORNIA

Skiing do's -- and one don't

Tips for first-timers

* Use snap-on mittens for younger skiers.

* Apply sunscreen, even on cloudy days.

* Dress in layers; temperatures at Southern California resorts can go from the teens to the 50s in a hurry.

* Take a handkerchief (for runny noses).

* Keep your head swiveling to watch out for other skiers.

* Wear a helmet.

* Don't ski faster than your skill level allows.

* Take a camera; at this stage, photo-ops are plentiful.

Where am I?

Should we take offense, order a drink, or what? That depends, of course, on where you think these words turned up.
