Planning your trip to Lamoille Canyon, Nevada

DRIVE TIME

Lamoille Canyon is in the Ruby Mountains of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, southeast of Elko, Nev.

From Reno, take Interstate 80 east about 300 miles to Elko. From Elko, follow Nevada 227 southeast for 22 miles through Spring Creek to Lamoille Canyon Road. Turn right onto Lamoille Canyon Road and drive several miles to Thomas Canyon Campground.

THE CAMPGROUND

The campground, at 7,600 feet elevation, has 40 sites, potable drinking water and no-flush toilets. Nearby Lamoille offers food, drink and lodging. Visitors can explore Lamoille Canyon Road, which dead ends at a lovely meadow that has wildlife viewing, fishing and hiking. Bird-watchers should also stop at the picnic area at the base of Lamoille Canyon Road.

RESERVATIONS

Reservations must be made at least four days before arrival at www.recreation.gov or (877) 444-6777. Sites cost $14 to $28 a night.
