Where mozzarella meets memories
Regarding "Where the Mozzarella Roams" by Susan Spano [May 10]. Now I'm hungry. I spent two summers of my youth, 1964 and 1965, north of Naples, Italy. I remember the pizza was outstanding -- simple as it could be, cooked in those wood-fired ovens in huge, two-story-high stone walls. I might have been just a little kid then, but I still remember the taste. Never have I had such good pizza. Mozzarella was everywhere too, on bread, on noodles, by itself.

In search of more two-wheeled treks
Thanks to Jane Engle for a very nice article ["Days of Wine, Roses, Bikes," May 10]. My wife and I can't wait to take our tandem up to San Luis Obispo and spend our time and money (almost) locally. We would enjoy more essays on bike-friendly towns. We all know about Santa Ynez and Napa, so how about

Take a lesson from wise parents
Regarding Catharine Hamm's "On the Spot" column ["Cancel Over Flu?," May 10], I thought the interesting thing in Cindy Ecay's story was that she was planning on going to
My parents had four children, and our vacations consisted of driving to state and national parks. Part of their reason was cost, but also if things got really bad, we could pack up the car and drive home. The older I get, the more I realize how wise my folks were.

Vacation? Oh, go get a job
If Leslie Tellez is unemployed, why is she going on vacation to Las Vegas ["Who Needs Money," May 10]? Whenever I'm jobless, I'm looking for work and saving my pennies because I never know how long it will last. This article does not ring true. Going on holiday when you are unemployed is just stupid. Go look for a job.

Buchanan in the
One more rather picky point regarding Janis Cooke Newman's story on Mary Todd Lincoln ["In Mary's Footsteps," May 3].
When she writes the "Buchanans were slow to move out . . . " it should be noted that there actually weren't Buchanans in the usual sense because James was a bachelor and his niece, Harriet Lane, served as first lady. I guess it would be proper to say that "Buchanan and his niece" were slow to move out. Details, details.
