Luggage theft may signal larger issue

12:00 AM PST, January 14, 2007

THERE were two letters that caught my attention: "Airline Service Won't Get Better" and "Baggage Policies Need Reality Check" [Letters, Dec. 31].

When your luggage doesn't arrive with you, that's very frustrating, but when items are stolen, that's worse. When did stealing from a passenger's luggage become OK? Why doesn't anyone address this matter?

After our two daughters experienced luggage thefts at LAX, it is my opinion that cameras should be focused on TSA as well as any baggage handlers. After all, if they are taking items for their own gain, who is to say that these same people are not putting explosives into some traveler's bag?

Does no one care that a traveler's personal belongings are being stolen?
