Planning your trip to Jarbidge Wilderness Area

THE BEST WAY TO JARBIDGE

From Los Angeles, take Interstate 5 to Sacramento, then Interstate 80 east to Nevada. Follow I-80 to Elko. From Elko, take Nevada Highway 225 north to the Jarbidge exit, about 66 miles from Elko. By air, Delta and Southwest offer nonstop flights from LAX to Salt Lake City. United, US Airways and Frontier offer connecting flights (change of planes). Restricted round-trip fares begin at $224. Follow I-80 west to Wells, then north on Nevada Highway 93 to Rogerson, Idaho.

ATTRACTIONS

Hiking and backpacking: The Matterhorn at 10,800 feet is the highest in the Jarbidge Wilderness Area, but all of the peaks are appealing destinations.

WHERE TO STAY

Camping: Free camping is plentiful surrounding Jarbidge. For backpackers, no permits are needed for camping in the Jarbidge Wilderness Area or the Bureau of Land Management public lands surrounding the wilderness area.
