Los Angeles Custom Hotel * * 1/2

New and noteworthy: The year-old Custom pairs wit, high style and lower prices to make a new category: cool airport hotel.

The stay: Though most travelers stay only a day or two, the imaginative décor makes travelers want to stay awhile longer.

The scene: Students and lots of foreign tourists alight in the bar, pool and restaurant.

Deal maker: Boutique-hotel concept at a good price with decent service and easy airport access.

Deal breaker: It's a schlep to anything fun.

Stats: 8639 Lincoln Blvd., Los Angeles; (877) 287-8601; www.customhotel.com

Rooms: Standard rooms begin at $119; suites from $279.

Rating is based on the room, service, ambience and overall experience with price taken into account in relation to quality.
