The stay: Rock collectibles, rock lingo and rock music permeate nearly every surface and sensation, almost concealing the Hard Rock brand's graying classic-rock roots.
The scene: Hordes of young locals and tourists queue for bar admission while tourists, conventioneers and even San Diego residents check in for some personal party time.
Deal maker: Despite its 12 stories and 420 rooms, the décor, music, bars and restaurants make it feel like a smaller boutique hotel.
Deal breaker: The hotel, across the street from the San Diego Convention Center, aims to attract anyone who ever listened to album rock.
