How it rates * * *

New and noteworthy: A yearlong renovation brought glamorous sophistication to the lobby, a Gordon Ramsay restaurant and 200 suites.

The stay: Hang out in your spacious suite or the rooftop pool; score reservations at the hot hotel restaurant; explore the Sunset Strip.

The scene: Luxurious oasis attracts party gals and guys, foodies and entertainment industry types attending award shows and events.

Deal maker: Ramsay's cool restaurant; plus the Sunset Strip location puts nightclubs within walking distance.

Deal breaker: Not-quite-finished hotel and restaurant still learning the ropes of service.

Green touches: Guests have the option to reuse sheets and towels.

Stats: 1020 N. San Vicente Blvd., West Hollywood; (310) 854-1111, www.thelondonwest.

Rooms: Standard suites begin at $299 up to $599 for a one-bedroom suite.

Rating is based on the room, service, ambience and overall experience with price taken into account in relation to quality.
