The Palihouse Holloway hotel: How it rates

How it rates: * *

New and noteworthy: The first of three extended-stay Los Angeles-area hotels blends boutique hotel attitude with condo/studio layout in 36 units.

The stay: Make yourself at home in cool digs, or make a meal in the designer kitchenette, but expect to clean up. Maids come only twice a week.

The scene: Crash pad for creative types attracts fellow artists who linger in the lobby's living-room-like lounge or the Hall, the French brasserie.

Deal maker: Upscale digs, great restaurant and easy walking neighborhood.

Deal breaker: For leisure travelers, lack of hotel services is a big bummer.

Stats: 8465 Holloway Drive, West Hollywood; (323) 656-4100, www.palihouse.com.

Rooms: Weekly rates begin at $325 a night.

Rating is based on the room, service, ambience and overall experience with price taken into account in relation to quality.

Where am I?

This is a city known for great old architecture. And it's a desert spot and has a long-standing tradition of hospitality.
