How it rates * * 1/2

New and noteworthy: Design guru Thom Filicia redesigned all 258 suites, the poolside cabanas and the outdoor restaurant and lounge, the Backyard. New menu at NineThirty restaurant.

The stay: Creative corporate types mix with all-age hipsters.

The scene: Daytime, it's see and be seen in the Backyard; nighttime, it's inside at Whiskey Blue.

Deal maker: Big, beautiful suites, upscale amenities and a Bliss Spa.

Deal breaker: Stylish service aims high but trips over its well-shod feet.

Rooms: Rates for 2008 begin with the "Wonderful Studio," $639; "Extreme Wow Suite," $1,919.
