WHERE TO EAT
Encinitas Cafe, 531 S. Pacific Coast Highway, Encinitas; (760) 632-0919. This is the spot for an old-fashioned, down-home breakfast, and it's open daily at 5:30 a.m. Regular oatmeal is $3.75; the recommended Irish oatmeal is $3.95.
Fidel's Little Mexico, 607 Valley Avenue St., Solana Beach; (858) 755-5292. It's tucked away, so you'll probably have to ask for directions, but don't worry: Everyone will know Fidel's. It has been in business nearly five decades. The only drawback is you need patience. There's usually a long line at peak hours. Entrees start at $6.75..
