Hike among the towering cliffs of Utah's Zion National Park, then spend the night at the park's lodge for only $81, plus taxes.

The deal: The Zion in Winter special, available Dec. 2 through March 13, applies to standard rooms Sundays through Thursdays. Weekend rates are $91 per night for a standard room, $101 for a Western cabin and $121 for a suite. The rates include breakfast.

The hotel: Zion Lodge, which offers the only accommodations in the park, was built in 1922 but destroyed by fire in 1966. It was rebuilt that year and the exterior renovated in 1990. The lodge features historic cabins with gas log fireplaces and private porches. Standard motel rooms are also available, most with queen-size beds and private porches or balconies. The Red Rock Grill, Zion Lodge's recently renovated dining room, is open year-round.

Where is it? Zion National Park is about a three-hour drive northeast of Las Vegas.

Reservations: The package is subject to availability and is not offered Dec. 31 or Feb. 14. Taxes and gratuities are extra. Call (888) 297-2757 or see www.zionlodge.com. Mention the promotion code "WNTR" when making reservations.

Where am I?

To reach this view of a mountain lake, it's about a 4-mile hike from one of the classic, woodsy old national park hotels of the American West.
