The era of Hawaii's monarchy is revisited during the event, which spans six islands and about six weeks. Among highlights: the opening ceremony Sept. 14, 2007 on the grounds of Iolani Palace in Honolulu, with hula and singing and other traditional entertainment; a re-creation of a royal inauguration on the Big Island, performed in Hawaiian at the edge of a volcano crater; an attempt to break the record for the longest hula line, Sept. 22, 2007 along the beach in Waikiki; falsetto-singing contests on each island that culminate in finals on Oahu.

When, where: Events this month to October at various locations throughout the Hawaiian islands.

Admission: Free to nearly all events.
