Hidden Gardens: A Big Sur Garden Tour
When, where: June 21 at various locations in the Big Sur area.
Highlights: 10-year anniversary of the event; features eight of the top gardens on the coast, with artists, musicians and historians; reception after tour with live music, refreshments and art for sale.
Cost: $60, 6 and younger free.

Country Coast Classic Bike Ride

Highlights: Scenic coastline rides of 25 to 100 miles; post-ride barbecue.

CARMEL
Artist in Residence
When, where: Today, Friday to June 15, 20 to 22, 25 to 29, Phillips Gallery of Fine Art, in Carmel Plaza at Ocean Avenue and Mission Street.
Highlights: Artists demonstrate their techniques, including contemporary still lifes, crystal and dichroic glass and bold abstracts.

SAN FRANCISCO
Butterfly Zone Night Safaris
When, where: 8 to 9:30 p.m. the first and third Thursdays of each month through Oct. 2 at the Conservatory of Flowers, JFK Drive, Golden Gate Park.
Highlights: Explore the conservatory butterfly exhibit with flashlights; search for the green Luna moth and the Great Southern White butterfly; see flocks of butterflies roosting in the rafters.
Cost: Safari included with museum admission of $5, $3 children 5 to 11, 4 and younger free.
