BIG BEAR LAKE

Big Bear Lake International Film Festival

When, where: Sept. 11 to 14, at Big Bear Performing Arts Center, 39707 Big Bear Blvd., and Village Theaters North, 602 Pine Knot Ave.

Highlights: Screenings of independent features, shorts, animated and family films, and documentaries and a screenplay competition.

Cost: General admission for screenings, $5, Sunday films are free.

CARMEL

TomatoFest

When, where: 12:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at Quail Lodge, 8205 Valley Greens Drive.

Highlights: Wine, tomato and olive oil tastings; heirloom tomatoes and tomato seeds on sale; live music and dancing.

Cost: $95, includes entry plus food, wine and activities, children 11 and younger free.

GARBERVILLE

Pipejam

When, where: Sept. 6 at Southern Humboldt Community Park, 934 Sprowl Creek Road.

Highlights: Pro skating demonstrations, public competition, live music.

SAN DIEGO

Adams Avenue Street Fair

When, where: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 27 on Adams Avenue from 32nd to 35th streets in Normal Heights.

Highlights: Billed as Southern California's largest free music festival; more than 70 acts, including blues, jazz, rock and world music on six stages; carnival; beer gardens; 300- plus food and crafts vendors.

Cost: Free.

VENTURA

Rock on the Docks

When, where: 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sept. 6, 13, 20 and 27 at Ventura Harbor, 1583 Spinnaker Drive.

Highlights: Live bands perform on a floating dock in Ventura Harbor in front of shops and restaurants.

Cost: Free.
