Morro Bay Kite Festival
When, where: April 26 at Morro Rock parking lot, off Coleman Drive.
Highlights: 10 a.m. parade along Morro Bay Boulevard. A riot of colorful kites alongside the Central Coast landmark.

SAN DIEGO
Adams Avenue Roots & Folk Festival
When, where: May 3 and 4, Adams Avenue from 35th to Felton streets.
Highlights: blues, folk, bluegrass, roots rock; more than 40 musical acts on seven stages; arts, crafts and food booths; beer gardens; music workshops.
Cost: Free.

SAN FRANCISCO
Yerba Buena Gardens Festival
When, where: May 3 to Oct. 18 at the gardens, between Mission and Howard streets and 3rd and 4th streets downtown.
Highlights: more than 100 events, including music, dance and theater; kicks off with world music by Rupa & the April Fishes plus Brass Menazeri, the Bay Area's top Balkan brass band; Children's Garden Series with interactive programs for kids and adults; the Living Word Festival.

SOQUEL
Cinco de Fido / Spring Dog Parade & Fiesta
When, where: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 4, Soquel High School, 401 Old San Jose Road.
Highlights: piñatas full of doggy treats, dog parade, dog fashion show, freestyle dog dancing demo, agility show, Frisbee dog competition, Jack Russell racing.
Cost: Free, $10 per dog to participate.
