JOSHUA TREE

Joshua Tree Roots Music FestivalWhen, where: Oct. 18 and 19, Joshua Tree Lake Campground.

Highlights: This annual event, which organizers call "a rootsicana newgrassy folkadelic experience," will showcase musicians Peter Case, the South Austin Jug Band and others.

Cost: $70 for a two-day pass; $45 for a Saturday pass; $30 for a Sunday pass.

SAN FRANCISCO

International Vintage Poster FairWhen, where: Oct. 24 to 26, Ft. Mason.

Highlights: More than 6,000 pieces will be on display and for sale at the world's oldest and largest show that focuses on original vintage posters.

CLAREMONT

Village Venture Arts & Crafts FaireWhen, where: Oct. 25, Claremont Village and Shelton Park.

Highlights: This annual event draws more than 450 vendors selling arts, crafts and global foods. Games for kids, a Halloween parade and a pumpkin contest.

PHOENIX

Arizona Exposition & State FairWhen, where: Now through Nov. 2, Arizona State Fairgrounds.

Highlights: Animals, carnival rides, science exhibits, cooking contests, a craft show and a stellar music lineup that includes Weezer, Sheryl Crow, the Goo Goo Dolls and Mary J. Blige.

Cost: $12; $6 for ages 5 to 13 and 55 and older; free for children 4 and younger.

LAS VEGAS

Las Vegas Marathon

When, where: Dec. 7, starting at Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino.

Highlights: Fireworks, running Elvi and a course that traverses through a wedding chapel as 20,000 runners take on the Strip.

Cost: $105 for marathon, $95 for half-marathon.
