SAN FRANCISCO

SF Indie Film Fest

When, where: Feb. 5 to 22, Roxie Cinema and Victoria Theatre in San Francisco and Shattuck Cinema in Berkeley.

Highlights: The 10th annual event screens more than 100 independent films, hosts themed parties and offers opportunities for filmmaker meet-and-greets.

Cost: Tickets from $10 to $20.

ASPEN, COLO.

Aspen Fashion Week

When, where: March 1 to 5, throughout Aspen.

Highlights: The first Aspen Fashion Week will feature about 15 designers presenting their winter collections as well as nightly fashion events, in-store presentations and après-ski soirees.

Cost: Free to registered attendees. Discounted lodging available from sponsor hotels such as the Sky Hotel, St. Regis, Little Nell and Limelight Lodge.

SAN DIEGO

San Diego Bird Festival

When, where: March 5 to 8, Marina Village Conference Center, Mission Bay.

Highlights: The San Diego Audubon Society's 13th annual event will feature bird workshops, guided pelagic trips, a sneak preview of the new documentary "Ghost Bird" and a banquet with keynote speaker David Allen Sibley, a bird artist, author and authority.

Cost: Events range from free to $400.

HONOLULU

Honolulu Festival

When, where: March 13 to 15, various locations.

Highlights: The Waikiki Grand Parade, Friendship Gala, performances and art exhibits that spotlight Pacific and Asian cultures.

SOLVANG, CALIF.

Taste of Solvang Food & Wine Festival's Restaurant WeekWhen, where: March 15 to 19 (restaurant week) and March 20 to 22 (taste), various venues.

Highlights: Tastings at restaurants, dessert reception, a walking smorgasbord with some 50 "taste stops," a wine walk, live entertainment and free tours of the Elverhoj Museum of History & Art.Cost: Three-course restaurant dinners are $20.09 (reservations recommended); weekend passport, $70; wine walk, $35; walking smorgasbord, $30; and dessert reception, $25.
