Planning your visit to Bolinas Lagoon Preserve

AUDUBON CANYON RANCH AT THE BOLINAS LAGOON PRESERVE

When to go: The preserve is open from March 15 to July 13. On weekends and holidays: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. No appoint- ment is necessary. Tuesdays through Fridays: 2 to 4 p.m. by appointment only. Call (415) 868-9244. The preserve is closed Mondays. For more information, go to www.egret.org. No fee is charged, but a $15 donation is suggested.

Address: 4900 Highway 1, Stinson Beach, Calif.

Directions: The preserve is 30 miles north of San Francisco. From San Francisco, cross the Golden Gate Bridge on U.S. 101, turn west onto California 1 for 12 miles to Stinson Beach. Continue on California 1 for an additional three miles to the ranch.

Other things to do at the preserve: Kids can hang out at one of three ponds, where volunteers will help them catch and identify newts, frogs and other wildlife. Visitors can also enjoy a lunch at one of several picnic tables throughout the ranch.
