Gardens aren't only worth visiting in springtime, and New England isn't the only place to celebrate autumn.
The Atlanta Botanical Garden has a variety of interesting events scheduled for the fall, including an Oct. 2-31, 2007 display of some 50 masterpiece scarecrows chosen from entries in a scarecrow-making contest open to professional designers as well as members of the public.
The dahlia show takes place Sept. 29-30, the African violet show is Nov. 3-4, and the orchid show is Nov. 9-11.
At a "Fest of Ale," scheduled for 6-10 p.m., Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25, a variety of choice beers and ales will be available for purchase.
For kids, "Goblins in the Garden" takes place 1-4 p.m. Oct. 28, with pony rides, story time, a costume parade and crafts.
